Their music is funky experimental rock with elements of jazz. As a band all members bring forward different influences and musical upbringing, however the one band that is always seen as a major influence is Talking Heads which is reflected in the bands rhythms, punchy guitar and grooves. Astronomy and space exploration have had big influences on music, including surf music.

In the 1960s the Space Race between the West/USA and East/USSR inspired  surf bands like ‘The Astronaut’s from the U.S.A.,

‘The Spotniks’ from Sweden, and  ‘Die Sputniks’ from East Germany.

What came out of this time of space exploration was a range of space themed instrumentals and songs with a surf music sound!

Come and hear the SURF SHADOWS play Telstar, Sputnik, Vostok Rumble, The Rocket Man, Dr Who Theme, Polaris, and songs like Space Oddity, Under the Milky Way, and Planet Claire to name just a few.
