Brittain
House
Over the next
few years, development of the Observatory's facilities will be continued.
A house from the Eureka Park precincts has been transferred to the Observatory
grounds, where renovation and refitting is now substantially complete.
The house's spacious rooms include a Library, discussion and project
areas, a functions complex (large hall and modern kitchen) and disabled
toilet. Wheelchair access ramps and concrete paths have been installed.
Sponsors for this project include: City of Ballarat Council, Department
of State and Regional Development - Business Victoria, Haymes Paint, Reece
Plumbing. The picture shows the house in its new location.
Any donations
towards this project will be very gratefully received, and can be sent
to the Treasurer, Ballaarat Astronomical Society, P.O. Box 284 Ballarat
3353.
Science
Parks
Looking much
further into the future, we hope to develop a "Science Park" in the Observatory
grounds, with daytime interactive features, but this will depend on the
availability of adequate funds. Anyone interested in this concept is invited
to contact Bill Fiddian at billfidd@vic.chariot.net.au,
as we will be developing our ideas over the next two or three years. The
total complex will provide a modern educational, recreational and tourist
facility with several unique and fascinating features. At the same time,
the historic treasures of the Observatory, which have National Trust and
Heritage Victoria Listing will be preserved and enhanced. |
